People from the community filled the streets in Los Angeles to see the Space Shuttle Endeavor. The science community stated that it was their hope that this event would inspire the youth (presumably minority youth) to pursue studies that would prepare them for careers in the fields of science and space exploration. Judging from the wonder seen on the faces of young people here, that could very well happen if they can transfer their enthusiasm from the streets to the classroom. I’ve been a Trekie since Spock first grew pointed ears; I pray that our young people sieze this opportunity of a life-time.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01998555743274654262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532243554059229458.post-5325481081490514172012-07-17T12:38:00.000-07:002012-07-17T12:38:38.678-07:00

Venice Beach, CA is a wild frontier that takes the outdoors shopping experience to unusual extremes. You don’t have to enter the shops to find out what the keeper is selling. They’ll make it known loud and clear as you pass by; like the busty young attendant wearing a lime green jumper in front of a ‘physicians clinic’ (one of many) who asked me if I needed any medical marijuana. I politely said, “No,” and kept walking. A few doors down I could have gotten any assortment of tattoos or body piercings. I kept walking. I passed Muscle Beach and saw weightlifters whose biceps were nearly as big as my waist (which I’m working on). The men lifting weights had even bigger biceps Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01998555743274654262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532243554059229458.post-10957236680154655232012-05-18T12:33:00.000-07:002012-05-18T12:38:05.780-07:00Preachers & Protestors in Leimert Park

Leimert Park in Los Angeles is a hub for street preachers, protestors and an assortment of individuals or groups with a message to disseminate through bull horns, signs and banners or simple 'hollar at the top of your lungs' delivery methods. At various times, you'll find Rastafari, Muslim, Christian, anti-government marchers and often live music. There are restaurants, clothing stores specializing in African attire, a cultural center, a bookstore and other shops that represent the milieu, making this a very lively place to paint. It was my turn this day to proclaim my message about Jesus.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01998555743274654262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532243554059229458.post-5389142848015470682012-05-17T12:24:00.000-07:002012-05-17T12:33:30.643-07:00Trail to Mt.

Rose Bowl in the Rain

A light drizzle fell over the San Gabriel Valley Tuesday morning. The thought crossed my mind that this would be a great day to go out and paint.

I returned to a site I've painted many times; the Rose Bowl. I was greeted by major construction in progress there. The press boxes and private suites were covered with iron and scaffolding. It appears that the Bowl is also being extended for additional audience seating.

The rain didn't prevent me from working, nor did it stop the hard-hat workers. The joggers were out as well as the golfers. I was visited by one of the construction workers who talked about retiring so he could pursue his passion. Several motorists also asking directions for an event in the area.

This parking lot is west of the Rose Bowl. It gets very warm to work on in the hot summer sun, but there are trees scattered about that will provide shade. One warning though, this is a popular spot where people come to teach their family and friends to drive. Today, there was a lady learning how to drive a stick shift car. I kept a close eye on her and was amused by her jerky starts and sudden stops. I also was prepared to grab my easel and run if the car got away from her.

I discovered, as I'm sure you can imagine, that painting in the rain is the perfect way to get the wet look in watercolors.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01998555743274654262noreply@blogger.com01001 Rose Bowl Drive Pasadena, CA 9110334.172967726467355 -118.1797170639038134.172557226467354 -118.18033406390381 34.173378226467356 -118.1791000639038tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532243554059229458.post-5285289618153518862012-05-03T03:00:00.000-07:002012-05-03T03:00:09.702-07:00Wet Media or Digital, Who's Numero Uno?
I did this painting (above) on my iPhone using the Layers app. I look at this two and a half years later and wonder why artists torture themselves creating on such a small device. I'm joking. I've seen some beautiful artwork created on mobile devices that rival work done on large canvases. I still enjoy doing digital paintings, but it doesn't appear it will bump wet media out of numero uno in my studio.

Pasadena City Hall was built in 1927. The design was influenced by the Renaissance style of Italian architect Andre Palladio. The building was vacated temporarily in 2004 as it underwent major renovation and structural upgrading to withstand possible earthquake activity.
This has been the backdrop for art festivals, concerts, special presentations and other events. I have painted here many times. It was also the site of one of my workshops.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01998555743274654262noreply@blogger.com0104-170 N Garfield Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101, USA34.147732628707367 -118.1442797183990534.147322128707366 -118.14489671839905 34.148143128707368 -118.14366271839904tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532243554059229458.post-81249380922939629972012-05-01T03:00:00.000-07:002012-05-05T18:00:15.263-07:00Hollywood Towers

Hollywood Tower

The Hollywood Towers is a historic hotel in Hollywood CA. Pasadena, CA is a modern small city that has held on to much of its historic past. This amphitheater in Memorial Park is surrounded by modern condos.
